Here is today’s Mi'kmaq History Month fact:

 

Aboriginal people discovered the first chewing gum, which was collected from spruce trees. In the 1800s, sugar was added and chewing gum has been popular the world over, ever since.

 

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

  • Tomorrow is the last day to sell magazines for the Magazine Campaign.  There are prizes for the top Junior and Senior seller for this year’s campaign, make sure you get out and make some last minute sales.
  • There is no Glee Club afterschool today.
  • There will be an Apparel Committee meeting Wednesday in the Cafeteria before school from 8:30 – 9.
  • Apparel will be on sale Tuesday and Wednesday next week at Jr and Sr lunch.
  • On Monday October 23rd at 12:45 in room 204 there will be a short presentation about the Explore program.  Explore provides opportunities for French Immersion across Canada.
  • Photography Club will meet on Tuesday next week from 3:30 – 4:30 in Ms Greenlaw’s room, rm 212.
  • Any Senior High Students interested in entering a Canadian History competition should see Ms. Cole in room 202 at Sr Lunch on Monday.  Prizes include a fully paid trip to Europe or cash.

 

ATHLETICS

  • Cross Country will practice Friday afterschool. 
  • Reminder of the Sr Boys Soccer practice at 3:30 today!  The Senior Boys also play their first game at Regionals at 1 PM Saturday – come cheer them on!
  • Sr Girls soccer players please return your soccer jerseys to Ms Britney. Reminder to pay your soccer fees as well.
  • Congrats to the Jr “A” Girls Soccer team on their win yesterday against AWEC.  The girls advance to the District final next week in Digby.
  • There is a Jr Boys Volleyball league tournament today from 4:30-6:30 at MRHS.  Drop by and cheer on the Jr Boys team. 
  • Reminder of the Senior Boys Hockey home opener is this Saturday @ the Middleton Arena vs Digby.  Game time is 7:30pm.  Come out and cheer on the team.  Admission is $5 for Adults, $4 for Students and $1 off the admission price if wearing Blue and Gold
  • High School Boys Hockey fees can be paid to Mr. Johnson or the office starting today.  2/3’s must be paid up front (by November 1st and the remainder by December 15th.  Please see Mr. Johnson if you have any questions.
  • Senior Boys Basketball tryouts start this Friday 3:30 – 5pm in the New Gym.  A number of newcomers are needed as well as all returning players.  The second tryout will be Tuesday October 24th from 6:30 – 8 in the Old Gym.

 

STUDENT SERVICES

  • Grade 12 is an exciting year filled with decisions, changes & possibilities.  Mrs. Arthur is looking for Grade 12 students who would be interested in forming a Lunch Time group to discuss these challenges.  Interested?  See Mrs. Arthur for details.
  • Reminder to all Grade 11 & 12 students that all NSCC Campuses are holding an Open House today.  The application fee is waived today.  Save yourself some money and enter to win $1000 towards your tuition.

 

GRAD INFORMATION

  • Due to the Early Dismissal today Grad Sweaters will be not sale at Senior Lunch.  Sales will continue on Tuesday and Thursday next week in the main lobby.  
  • There is a Grad meeting Friday at Senior Lunch in Ms Greenlaw’s room.

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Found upstairs in the Junior Wing a Grey and Orange Under Armour cinch bag, it may be claimed at the office.
  • Popcorn will be on sale for $1 in the Main Lobby at Senior and Junior Recess today.

 

There is no CAFETERIA service today due to the Early Dismissal.
